Ryan Specialty Underwriting Managers (RSUM), the underwriting management division of Ryan Specialty, has launched a new managing general underwriter (MGU), Tera Underwriters, which itself has announced a new specialty insurance programme designed for computing hardware infrastructure at industrial-scale data centres across the US.

The programme has the capacity to provide over $1 billion per policy through a $625 million lead binder, and access to additional excess insurance capital.

Backed by A+-rated capital, the programme is available exclusively through RT Specialty, Ryan Specialty’s wholesale distributor of specialty insurance products and services.

To meet the needs of the rapidly accelerating computing infrastructure industry, Tera was purpose-built from the ground up, driven by the expansion of AI, cryptocurrency mining, and high-performance computing data centres.

As these facilities concentrate billions of dollars in specialised, high-value assets, traditional commercial property programs often fall short.

Tera aims to bridge this gap by delivering a purpose-built policy form crafted specifically for the risk profiles of high-value computing hardware, including ASICs, GPUs, and associated networking infrastructure.

Currently launched with nationwide availability across all 50 US states, Tera’s underwriting appetite targets institutional-grade operations, public companies, and infrastructure-funded facilities featuring robust physical risk controls, fire protection, and compartmentalisation.

Looking ahead, Ryan Specialty plans to expand Tera’s reach further by introducing international capabilities in the fourth quarter of 2026.
