The Cayman Islands has submitted an application to the US National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) for Qualified Jurisdiction Status (QJS), marking a long anticipated milestone.

cayman-islands-flagThe NAIC, a standard-setting body governed by chief insurance regulators from all 50 US states, the District of Columbia, and US territories, coordinates state-level regulation to protect consumers and ensure financial market stability.

Securing QJS status provides formal recognition that the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) maintains supervisory and solvency standards equivalent to those in the United States.

Achieving QJS status will significantly enhance the territory’s’ attractiveness as a global insurance hub, especially as most of its reinsurance business originates from the US.

To support the application, Premier and Minister for Financial Services and Commerce, the Hon. André M. Ebanks MP will attend the NAIC 2026 Summer National Meeting, and engage directly with key government, policy and financial services stakeholders in the US.

The event gathers federal and state regulators, as well as international attendees, to discuss issues affecting the American insurance sector, including annuity structures, property and casualty coverage developments, and market regulation.

Premier Ebanks’ visit reinforces the Cayman Islands Government’s continuous efforts to enhance relationships with US insurance regulators, advancing global regulatory collaboration, and to solidify trust in the jurisdiction as a highly reputable and well regulated international hub for insurance and reinsurance.
