Echo Reinsurance Limited (Echo Re), a Swiss-based reinsurer, has announced the appointment of Rajil Khare as Senior Underwriter, Indian Sub-Continent, effective June 22, 2026.
His appointment further strengthens Echo Re’s footprint in the rapidly growing Indian market, the firm stated.
While the reinsurer has maintained a steady presence in India for over a decade, its regional expansion recently accelerated.
In March 2026, Echo Re received approval from the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) of India to establish a reinsurance branch office in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), strengthening its operational capacity in a key market.
Khare brings deep, specialised knowledge of the Indian re/insurance market to Echo Re, backed by a strong track record across major industry players.
Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President – Head Reinsurance, Commercial Underwriting Data Analytics at Liberty General Insurance Ltd..
He had joined Liberty in India from HDFC Ergo General Insurance, where he joined in 2021 as Assistant Vice President – Reinsurance & Underwriting, and was later appointed Deputy Vice President, both based in the company’s Mumbai office.
In 2024, Khare was promoted to Vice President – Reinsurance & Underwriting at HDFC Ergo. During his tenure, he led reinsurance operations for all lines of business and oversaw commercial underwriting for the Property vertical, among other responsibilities.
The executive also spent close to three years at AXA XL, serving as a Treaty Underwriter for Property, Marine, Casualty, and Crop lines of business at the XLICSE India Branch.
Prior to that he was an Analyst at XL Catlin, before AXA acquisition. Before this he worked for another six years at HDFC Ergo, managing FAC (Facultative) placements, underwriting (Property lines), and reinsurance/claims/underwriting data analysis for global customers.
