Gallagher has created a European head of carrier management role to oversee insurer partnerships as it expands in the region, with Harald Köberich, who joined via the 2024 acquisition of Germany-based Köberich Financial Lines, taking on the role alongside leading its European specialist division.
Köberich has over 20 years of insurance industry experience. He founded Köberich Financial Lines in 2009, specialising in D&O insurance, plus other financial lines products including cyber, warranties & indemnities, professional indemnity and crime insurance.
In the expanded role, he is tasked with overseeing Gallagher’s relationships with insurers across Europe to provide clients with the best possible choice and access to market-leading relationships with underwriters.
Gallagher explained that it has been focused on growing its presence in Europe over recent years under the leadership of CEO Alex Nagler.
The firm reportedly has on-the-ground specialty and retail broking businesses in seven countries, intending to become a leading broker in the region and establish a presence in all key European markets.
Nagler commented, “Having the right relationships with our insurer partners is fundamental to providing our clients with an industry-leading service, and with as our client base grows across Europe it is increasingly important we have central leadership of this pivotal role, working hand-in-hand with in-country leadership.
“Having worked closely with Harald since he joined Gallagher two years ago, I know he will do a fantastic job of collaborating with insurers.”
Köberich said, “The head of carrier management plays a critical role in overseeing how we work with insurers and I will be focused on building and maintaining strong relationships with our underwriting partners to achieve mutual growth.
“Our business in Europe is increasingly diverse with our significant marine presence in the Nordics and our growing financial lines presence in continental Europe so making sure we have the right relationships in place has never been more important.
“I will work closely with my international counterparts to ensure that clients get the very best of the local market and can draw on Gallagher’s global size and scale as required.”
