Liberty Specialty Markets (Liberty), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has announced the appointment of Sarah Howell as head of claims, UK & MENA, effective 1 July 2026.
Howell is succeeding Scott Kellers, who left the business in April 2026, and will be reporting to Mike Gillett, chief claims officer, Liberty International Insurance, and Luis Prato, president, UK & MENA.
As part of her new appointment, the executive will join the UK & MENA executive leadership team and the global claims executive.
In her new role, Howell will lead the claims function across the UK & MENA region. She will focus on delivering strong client and broker outcomes, maintaining technical excellence, and contributing to the business’s strategic development and expansion.
With over 11 years of experience at Liberty across two different tenures, Howell is a recognised leader in the field.
Most recently, she served as head of first party claims, where she played a key role in leading complex claims, deepening broker and client relationships, and advancing the development of the claims function.
Her appointment reinforces Liberty’s commitment to claims excellence and client service across one of its key international regions.
Commenting on Howell’s appointment, Gillett said: “Sarah has deep technical expertise, strong market credibility and a clear understanding of what clients and brokers value most.
“Claims is central to how we serve our clients, support our brokers and differentiate our business in the market. Sarah’s appointment reflects both her exceptional leadership capabilities and the depth of claims talent within Liberty.”
