Karen Clark & Company (KCC) has estimated that the privately insured loss from Hurricane Isaias will be $3 billion in the US from wind and storm surge.

Based on KCC’s high-resolution US Hurricane Model, the estimate covers damage to residential, commercial and industrial properties, as well as automobiles and business interruption.

It excludes boats, offshore properties and losses covered by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

Isaias made landfall in Destin, Florida, as a Category 2 hurricane with 105-mph winds and a peak storm surge of about 8 feet.

It was the ninth named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season but the first to reach hurricane strength.

KCC observed that the most severe impacts were concentrated in the coastal cities and towns of the Florida Panhandle, like Destin, Pensacola Beach, and Navarre. Major damage has also been observed in towns around Pensacola Bay, such as Milton and Pace.

Meanwhile, power outages were widespread across Florida and Alabama and extended into western Georgia.

Other firms have also weighed in with their own estimates of the financial impact.

Verisk’s Catastrophe and Risk Solutions business has put insured industry losses to onshore property at between $1 billion and $2 billion, with wind damage expected to account for the vast majority of claims.

Cotality estimates insured losses from wind and storm surge at between $2 billion and $3 billion, while Euler ILS Partners has placed its initial estimate of industry losses at between $2 billion and $4 billion.

Beyond insured losses, Moody’s expects Isaias to deliver a modest regional economic shock, forecasting a $1 billion to $2 billion reduction in economic output.

AccuWeather has issued a broader estimate, putting total damage and economic losses across the Gulf and eastern United States at between $16 billion and $20 billion.
